I like the perspective from which this was taken, it adds more depth to the different elements of the photo.

Love the shot/colors etc. however I wish the horizon was a tad lower, and the subject slightly off center to make a more dynamic image. . . (If they were to the right the lines would help draw the eye over toward them. . .) Also, at 1/4000 a second, there's no need to be putting your camera on the ground to hold it still . . .and if you ever do so you should check the viewfinder to compose your shot. (lay on the ground)

thanks for the thoughtful comment and the critique.

this is actually the square version of this shot: [link]

i originally shot it off center.. just thought it would look nice in a square format..

what do you think of the original?

:iconcmickle:

I think the original is good. . .I'd like to see the crop moved up on the boards to where it begins to come into focus, and then cut off from the right at the edge of where the trees in the distance are. . .I think that'd look the best.

Nailed it but maybe just to be a little picky cut off that tad dark bit of diagnol at the bottom right, and it's perfect.

At least I think it's a much stronger image framed this way.

lol.. if i were to cut off that dark bit at the bottom right, i think the subjects would come too close to the edge. but i see what you mean with the framing this way.. i just liked the board, to be honest. all my hard work of placing the camera on the ground gone to waste hahaha... maybe i'll upload it like this as a second (third) shot and credit you for the suggestion :D

Sure, lol

Well, generally you place the horizon high, or low ("rule" of thirds) but in this case I think the sky is the big subject and cutting it down to more of the boards I feel takes away from it, and I didn't really care for the depth of field on the boards with the blur. . .if the boards were wet or had some chips/dents in them and were nice and crisp (hyperfocal distance) you could say phooey to the sky. . .

I think the sky is one of the dominating elements and it shouldn't compete with the boards in this one. But the boards add a sense of depth when used how they are in this crop.

you're right.. nice observation..
the golden rule (rule of thirds) works well in a case like this where the sky provides a decent amount of negative space to the left...

thanks for your critique man :)
i like it when people are more "critical" in their comments..
advice like this is always useful and welcome..
