Guitarist and Railroad - Story IV

Every now and then or at least for now, twice a week, I will be posting up a Journal featuring an exceptional photo and the author's story of how he/she captured that particular moment.

Many times, we come across amazing photos on deviantART and wonder what the story was behind that capture... who was involved, where it was taken, how it came to happen, and so forth. I thought it would be interesting to find out of a few of my own favorites, so I contacted a few photographers asking them for a quick summary of their stories.

This week's feature is one of Sergey Kostikov's  (JunKarlo) incredible shots.

To start with, the model is my brother. I wanted to try shooting outdoors with external flash-light, so I asked my brother to pose for me. When we got to the location , I mounted my Canon 430EX on small tripod, attached a 3ft shoot-through umbrella and start experimenting with the camera and flash settings, when during the second shot, the wind caught the umbrella and threw it few meters above the ground. When the flash fell on the ground, it didn't work anymore.

So disappointed in all that situation, we headed home and met my brother's friend on our way back. He had a guitar, and invited us to join him just for a walk around. The weather was not too bad, so we accepted his invitation and went for a walk. There was a small forest not far away from us so we went there, and my brother and his friend were joking and playing the guitar all the way.

Right by the forest there were two railroads, one is old and closed, and the other one is fully functional with trains running on it every 10 to 15 minutes. So the guys just decided to sit on the old railroad, relax and play some guitar.

Because I had a camera with me, I was shooting them just for fun.


These are the pictures from an old, abandoned railroad. But then the guys decided that with the interval of 10 to 15 minutes between trains, they would have enough time to play one song on the actual functioning railroad. And so they did.

That first picture, "Guitarist and Railroad 3," is basically my brother finishing the song.  You can't see from the picture, but there is a train coming about 200 meters away from us on that railroad!

So after I took the shot, we ran very fast  away from the railroad.
