1. Gallery Clean-up Project
The Gallery Clean-up Project will focus on literally cleaning up the category tree in several ways. This first part of this project, is all behind the scenes. Over the years there have been categories that have been "removed", merged, or changed and there are back-end changes that need to be done to fully remove them from the tree. This part will not affect you, and if everything goes properly, you won't even notice it

Traditional Tuesdays #34Howdy peeps? Welcome to the edition 34 of Traditional Tuesdays . This week, like all of the other weeks, I'll be featuring fifteen works of art from the Traditional Gallery. Any more than that might and you might loss interest or it could cause your monitor to fail in an explosion of awesomeness. I would feel guilty if that were to happen, so I'm keeping it at fifteen! The Traditional gallery is a vast storeroom of work that covers many mediums and genres. I've tried to show a good mix of artwork, but I don't have room for them all. Daily Deviation suggestions MUST be from Photography > Darkroom. This is the only gallery which I feature from.

Today I would like to take the opportunity to talk a bit about a part of the history of art that's very near to my heart: the Flemish Primitives.
Personally I'm very fond of this topic because it ties in with the history of my country and my love for medieval and late medieval culture. To me, it's fascinating to see how the early book-illustrators and miniaturists branched out to canvas and proceeded to be a driving force in the 15th and 16th century.
They were called the "Primitives" not because of a perceived lack of refinement, but because of the groundbreaking changes when it came to topics, iconography and materials used in paintings. During this article, I will hope to relate a brief history of these painters and why they are of such importance to the art as we know it today.

Hello Everyone!
Why is this year moving so fast?
I have received several notes from people asking why we have dropped from 2 DDs a day to just one in Lit (with the exception of Saturday), so I thought perhaps it is worth explaining publically our reasoning.
As you all know, it can be really difficult to find a good range of Literature deviations that we can feature and trying to find one every single day is a painful task and we would be concerned that the quality of our choices could dip if we pushed ourselves to find one every single day. With just 2 of us now, we have to work harder to find the ones we do. Unlike visual art, we have to spend time reading every single piece we make a decision on and this is time consuming.
If we received more suggestions from the community, we would perhaps consider increasing some days to two, but for now it will remain on one until a third CV joins the team. Please do keep your s

As announced last week, #CRLiterature is now open for membership. Over the year it has been open, it used to be watch only, but `thorns and I want to start building this group into something more interactive and community driven. Over the next few months, we will be adding little elements to the group to achieve this, but we want to know what you as the literature community think you want to get out of this group. Ideally we want to make this a community hub- soon members will be able to cross-post their projects/lit news journals so the information is better spread and we want to encourage more challenges and education too. Please feel free to share your thoughts on this, we want your feedback!

R&S - Font Gallery Update!!I am very happy to make an announcement today that is something that I have been eyeing suspiciously for a while and now am very relieved to see it done:
The Resource & Stock Images > Fonts gallery has been relaunched!

Now, without going into much detail, it used to be subpar. The category names were unprofessional and confusing, leading to frustrating search results and many many miscats.
Over the last month there has been a lot of work put into changing this status.
So first of all I’d like to thank ^Elandria and `Dan-Heffer who were very much in favor of the change and supported me in my endeavours to come up with a good gallery tree, despite being no experts on the topic of fonts, but giving me an outsiders input

*CyanideMishka is starkly open with her self portraiture work creating soft, gentle portraits in alluring or mysterious poses. Whilst the majority of her work focuses on Artistic Nude Self Portraits she also works hard to capture emotively and expressively. Truly an example of a gallery with Something for Everyone .

Project Educate: Expressing and EmotingEssentially, these are mostly the same thing with a few minor differences which are explained below. But before we move onto that, there's an important message to share when it comes to categorising your work. To get the best out of the photography galleries it's vitally important that you categorise your work properly. That' why these weeks exist in some respects, to help educate you through that. With regards to Daily Deviations - Community Volunteers will not give features to pieces of work that are mis-categorised. They might assist you by moving your work or explaining where it should go, but seeing a deliberate miscat is a bit off-putting when it comes to choosing pieces to showcase. Take some time to have a look through your gallery (I'm going to do the same!) and figure out if everything is in the right place. If you're struggling, just ask. We're here to help. What we won't do is rearrange your whole gallery for you. We will however, work with you to try and straighten things

Project Educate: People and Portraits IntroductionPortrait or Portraiture Photography is about a person or a group of people arranged in a certain way to convey the mood, emotions and possibly even a story. On DeviantART there are many sub-categories within the People & Portraits Gallery and some of those are self explanatory whilst others take a little bit more planning and thinking about to achieve. Throughout this week, we'll be working to hopefully clean up misconceptions and straighten out parts of the People & Portrait Galleries. So here's what's happening...

Top 21 DDs of 2012 (part 1)

As 2012 comes to a close, I felt it would be great to feature my personal top 21 photos of 2012 that I chose for the Daily Deviation award. This only goes back as far as July since that was when I started as a Community Volunteer. In the following days, I will be submitting three journals showcasing these beautiful works of art. They are my favorites, the ones that I take great pride in featuring and revisiting every now and again. I hope you find them as wonderful as I do.

Mom Knows Best by *iphelps

This shot stood out to me while I was selecting which animal photos to feature because of its beautiful, "realistic" perspective. Many of the animal shots we see here on dA are taken in zoos, in controlled environments. This, however, was taken out in the "wild" making it even more incredible, besides just plain wonderfully composed.

A Day Without Rain by `ssilence

This shot was one of the few jaw-dropping photos I remember seeing on dA when I was still a newbie on here. I fell in love with it then and used it as a benchmark standard for my own photos later. Today it is still an incredible work of art, beautifully composed, brilliantly captured.
